Hi,

I have been researching my father's side of the family and recently sent for marriage certificate for Thomas Chadwick and Elizabeth Sherratt, 1860 (Oct 1st) for clues as Thomas's early life has been difficult to trace.
Thomas's father (from the certificate) was also Thomas and the residence at this time was given as Harriseahead. Thomas senior's rank/profession is plumber/glazier and Thomas junior's is gardener. Elizabeth's father was John Sherratt who in 1861 lived at Knypersley Lodge and is listed as a bookeeper at the colliery b c 1807, shropshire. The vicar was John Tyson? and the marriage took place at the parish church, Wolstanton.
Thomas junior was the father of my great grandfather Robert Ernest Chadwick bc1872 and he appears aged 8 on the 1881 census at Knypersley Lodge, Tunstall Road, Biddulph.
On this census, robert's father Thomas is listed as born Congleton, Cheshire, farmer of 17 acres. They are on the previous 1871 census also, Thomas a machine clerk, born Biddulph and still living at Knypersley Lodge, Red Cross, Staffs.
Previous census searches up to yet have drawn a blank except for a Thomas Chadwick living with a Daniel and Elizabeth Bailey/Bayley (nee Chaddock) at Bradley Green. Thomas is listed on the 1851 census with Daniel and Elizabeth as niece's son.

Sorry to waffle on, but thought as much info as i could give would help as i wondered if you could throw any light on the Chadwick/Harriseahead connection. Have looked on the census info on your site and there are several chadwicks but haven't found a connection to mine as yet. I did note that a Henry Berrow was mentioned and this name was passed down through my particular Chadwick line. I would be very grateful for any information you may be able to add, if any.
I do have lots of other information if anyone has any queries. The site offers a brilliant insight into Harriseahead and surrouding areas and i have found it very informative.

many thanks, janice mitchell
