Hi
I am researching the Birch family who lived in Harriseahead late 1700's through
the 1800's. They were mainly 'cordwainers', i.e. shoemakers. The furthest
back I have found is James Birch who married Mary Johnson in 1790 at Newchapel.
Despite several years research I have been unable to get further back in the
Wolstanton area. I am also interested in Thomas Robey who originated in Warrington
circa 1800 and who became a school master. Having taught at Market Drayton
he ran a school in the Wesleyan Chapel Market St, Stoke-on-Trent until evicted.
His brother William also taught in the area. They appear to have connections
with the Methodist preachers of the same name. Any information would be appreciated,
particularly regarding the origins of the Birch family.
