Miners arms circa 1959 - 1961

Regulars enjoy a pint at the Miners Arms in Packmoor. The gentleman on the left is Mr G. Hesketh, the landlord. During the early twentieth century there were at least eight collieries working the area for coal and ironstone with rail links to the loopline at Goldenhill and the Biddulph Valley branch. Pubs have also declined in number.
A website visitor from Goldenhill cannot help but remember the picture: "You never went to Tunstall or Hanley. Everything was here. There were 20 odd pubs from Sandyford to the top of Kidsgrove bank. I even used to lie in bed and go through them!"
