Birchenwood Colliery No 4 pit

No 4 pit was worked from the mid 19th century until 1931. The large building to the left of centre
housed a massive " Goliath Cornish Pumping Engine" which had a 6 ft 6 ins diameter cylinder and
produced a stroke of 8 ft 6 ins. The other building right of centre was the Engine Pump House.
